People and Lands of Montana
An Art Installation and Fundraiser for the Montana Heritage Center
Help raise $1 million for the Montana Heritage Center and be honored in the new building.
The People and Lands of Montana art installation will be a major feature and attraction at the Montana Heritage Center. The installation is a two-part feature.
The mobile portion of the installation is located on the ceiling of the Central Commons, consisting of four large scale images swirling in a pattern overhead. The mobile images pay tribute to the four cardinal directions, the colors of the medicine wheel, and the landscapes and seasons of Montana.
The second portion of the art installation brings the people of Montana to center stage, digitally showcasing historic portraits from the MTHS Library and Archives and contemporary images of real Montanans. Located in the connecting walkway between the historic building and the new addition, two hundred images will rotate through four digital displays, powerfully conveying to visitors the connection between past and present, land and people.
These two elements weave together the overarching theme of the Heritage Center; the interaction between land and people. From mining to agriculture, from the fur trade to homesteading, the people and the land are intertwined.
